Arrested Development (2003-2006)

Michael Bluth, played by Jason Bateman, is the loser protagonist of this cult hit TV show. As the most stable member of a family of self-serving bumblers, Michael takes it upon himself to make the necessary sacrifices to keep the family business above water. One of these sacrifices is riding a bicycle to work, when he is not driving the "stair car", a pickup truck from an airport with an attached set of stairs on the back for boarding planes.

  1. I think you're wrong on this one. Michael Bluth is the most honorable character in Arrested Development, and he seems to cycle because he enjoys it. He also dresses as a normal person when he cycles, which is very rare in US media.

The most negative protrayal of him as a cyclist is probably when he sweats profusely during a presentation after commuting by bike. But that's mild enough.

Great idea for a blog. I'm enjoying it so far.

The other rule I've noticed (apart from the one you've pointed out, that utility cylists post-1970 are losers and/or perverts) is that a character who mounts a bicycle is usually about to collide with something.
